Purpose

Legal Form & Operating Framework of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Peloponnese

The Regional Union of Municipalities of Peloponnese is a Legal Entity of Private Law (LPIL) and is headquartered in Tripoli, the headquarters of the Region of Peloponnese. Its services are housed in privately owned premises, at 18 Patriarchou Grigoriou E’ & Konstantinou Paleologou Street, on the 2nd floor.

 

The establishment, organization, administrative bodies and, in general, the operation of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Peloponnese arise from article 282 of Law 1832/2010 and Presidential Decree 75/2011, as amended and currently in force.

 

The Regional Union of Municipalities of Peloponnese is the institutional body of collective expression of primary self-government in the Region of Peloponnese and has as its main purpose the representation and organized cooperation between the Municipalities of the Region of Peloponnese. The purposes of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Peloponnese also arise from article 1 of Presidential Decree 75/2011 and are:

The Peloponnese Local Association, in accordance with Law 3852/10 and Presidential Decree 75/2011, succeeded the five (5) former Local Associations of Municipalities and Communities (TEDK) of the Prefectures of Argolida, Arcadia, Corinth, Laconia and Messinia.

Organizational Structure of Services of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Peloponnese

The Services of the Peloponnese Regional Development Agency are structured at the Department and Office level, which are supervised and coordinated by the Head of the Department.

The following Offices fall under the Department:

  • Office of Development & Programming, European Programs, Mechanization and New Technologies, Employment, Education, Training and Social Policy.
  • Office of Administrative Support, Communication and Financial Management.

Within the framework of the two previous Offices, according to the OEY, the operation of Decentralized Services is envisaged, which are established at the headquarters of the Regional Units of Argolida, Messinia, Corinthia and Laconia, in the privately owned buildings of the PED, to serve the Municipalities of each Regional Unit.

Members of the Regional Association of Municipalities of Peloponnese

Members of the Peloponnese Regional Council are the following twenty-six (26) Municipalities of the Peloponnese Region:

Administrative Bodies of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Peloponnese

The administrative bodies of the Peloponnese Regional Development Authority are::

1. The General Assembly (GA)

2. The Board of Directors (BoD)

3. The Executive Committee (E.C.)

4. The President

5. The Supervisory Board (SB)

 

The General Assembly of the Peloponnese Regional Development Authority is composed of the representatives of the Municipalities of the Peloponnese Region. The one hundred and twenty-five (125) representatives that make up it are the twenty-six (26) Mayors of the Peloponnese Region and the ninety-nine (99) Municipal Councilors, who are elected by the Municipal Councils of the Municipalities, in accordance with the provisions of article 9 of Presidential Decree 75/2011, as amended and currently in force.

 

The Board of Directors of the Peloponnese Regional Development Authority is composed of twenty-one (21) members, of whom twelve (12) are Mayors and nine (9) are Municipal Councilors. These members are elected by the General Assembly, in accordance with the provisions of article 10 of Presidential Decree 75/2011, as amended and currently in force.

 

The Executive Committee of the Peloponnese PED consists of five (5) members. The five members that make up the PED are the President, the Vice President, the Secretary of the PED and two (2) members of the Board of Directors, who are elected from among the members of the Board of Directors, in accordance with the provisions of article 13 of Presidential Decree 75/2011.

 

The President of the Peloponnese Regional Development Authority is the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

 

The Supervisory Board of the Peloponnese Regional Development Authority consists of three (3) members, who are elected by the General Assembly of the Regional Development Authority, in accordance with the provisions of article 11 of Presidential Decree 75/2011.

 

The President, the Vice-President and the Secretary of the Peloponnese Regional Development Authority are elected from among the members of the Board, in accordance with article 13 of Presidential Decree 75/2011.

 

The President and the Vice-President of the Municipal Council of the Peloponnese Regional Development Authority are elected from among the members of the Municipal Council, in accordance with the provisions of article 14 of Presidential Decree 75/2011.

 

The term of office of all bodies follows the Municipal Period.
